Dear Neighbor:
Please join us in signing a petition that calls upon the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board to delay the awarding of Category 2 licenses for six months and to create a second public comment period.
Since closing the public comment period in June, every gaming applicant has altered their site plans significantly. Unfortunately, while the developers continue to make changes and address the Board’s concerns, our constituents have not had the opportunity to comment for the record. This lack of public input creates a flawed process and will result in a flawed product. By delaying the award for six months, by distributing additional information, and by allowing further public testimony, the process will be improved. While we may not be happy with the Board’s final decision, at least we will have been heard and these proposals will have been fully vetted.
In addition, there is the potential that two gaming licenses will be awarded on the Delaware River. While each applicant has supplied traffic studies as it relates to their own project, no adequate study has been completed should two licenses be awarded close together. A comprehensive study is necessary to help insure near neighborhoods are protected.
Finally, Mayor Street recently announced a riverfront planning initiative led by PennPraxis. This initiative should help guide the PGCB’s selection process rather than casinos shaping the planning initiative. It is imperative that the PGCB allow the planning process to continue prior to making a decision on gaming licensure.
Please sign this petition and ask the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board to delay the awarding of Category 2 licenses for six months and to create a second public comment period.
Working together, we can protect our neighborhoods and we can make a difference.
Sincerely,
Frank DiCicco
Jim Kenney
